4 years old killed his grand-dad . . .
.

The following story was told at the Sunday-school for the kids 4 ~ 7 years . . .

This family counted four married siblings and their old dad. The old man was sick and couldn’t live alone any longer, so it was decided that he should live for a while with each of his children. The problem was that none of the siblings really wanted him to live with them.
The young son in one of the families was listening to the grown ups talking about this problem.
The boy at 4 years old, went to his grand-dad and told him what he had heard.
The old man felt so sad and troubled that he took a heart-attack and died.

The Sunday-school teacher then told the children, that it was to the best for the old man, because now he was dead and had come to heaven.

I must say, I got somehow troubled when I heard this . . . Is this really a story for small children? Was this the correct way to tell the story??

What is your opinion? Do you have children going in Sunday-school, and would you like your children to hear this kind of stories?

Sounds like a morality guilt trip to me.

Telling young children such stories is wrong and will result in anxiety.

Kids will eventually learn life's difficult lessons through experience and gentle guidance.

That is a perfectly horrible story and should not be told anywhere esp Sunday School - It teaches that old age is a burden, the old are not valued but better off dead. This would prepare children to accept euthanasia as a very good thing.

I would NOT like my child to hear such stories!! Especially in Sunday School!! Must've been pressing the "Heaven" bit I guess, but that's AWFUL!!!

I head about a little kid the whacked his grandpa over the head with a monkey-wrench after he saw Moe do that to Curly on the "Three Stooges". I don't know how true that is though.

Now way would I want my boys to hear that story. I'm trying to teach them respect for the elderly. This would undo everything.

Lexcen: I'm not kidding.
Phos: Yeah, you know ... when we grown ups are that stupid, we make "children's" program full of violence and fiction and believe the children know by themselves what is right and what is wrong, what is real and what is fiction ...Then we don't deserve any better neither.
My youngest son once almost jumped out the window, playing superman. Because if superman could, maybe he could too. "He wouln't know before he had tried" he said

So, my children was not allowed to watch too much TV. I read for them instead.

A 4 year old would have a lot of interesting questions during a story like this.

What's a heart attack?
Why do you die from a heart attack?
Why didn't the boy save the old man?
How did he get to heaven?
Why did he go to heaven after a heart attack?
Why was it better that the old man died rather than stay alive?
etc.

P.S. I like your new profile picture!
