From China to Panama, a Trail of Poisoned Medicine

IN CHINA At least 18 people, most of them in Guangdong Province, died in a month last year after they ingested contaminated medicine.

Published: May 6, 2007 NY Times
The kidneys fail first. Then the central nervous system begins to misfire. Paralysis spreads, making breathing difficult, then often impossible without assistance. In the end, most victims die.

Chemical country The Taixing countryside in eastern China, near the Yangtze Delta. Forty-six barrels of toxic syrup followed a path from a factory in the nearby small town of Hengxiang to Panama.
Many of them are children, poisoned at the hands of their unsuspecting parents.
The syrupy poison, diethylene glycol, is an indispensable part of the modern world, an industrial solvent and prime ingredient in some antifreeze.
It is also a killer. And the deaths, if not intentional, are often no accident.
Over the years, the poison has been loaded into all varieties of medicine — cough syrup, fever medication, injectable drugs — a result of counterfeiters who profit by substituting the sweet-tasting solvent for a safe, more expensive syrup, usually glycerin, commonly used in drugs, food, toothpaste and other products.
Toxic syrup has figured in at least eight mass poisonings around the world in the past two decades. Researchers estimate that thousands have died. In many cases, the precise origin of the poison has never been determined. But records and interviews show that in three of the last four cases it was made in China, a major source of counterfeit drugs.

Panama is the most recent victim. Last year, government officials there unwittingly mixed diethylene glycol into 260,000 bottles of cold medicine — with devastating results. Families have reported 365 deaths from the poison, 100 of which have been confirmed so far. With the onset of the rainy season, investigators are racing to exhume as many potential victims as possible before bodies decompose even more.

Looks like China is poisoning the world with it's greed.

Firt with the poison added to wheat and rice protein to fool the machines that test nutritional value and now with antifreeze in the medicine..what kind of monsters
are these?

Yes, check the ingredience-list on the tooth-paste and medication you give your children, Hammer.
These days, you never know what you actually get inside the body ...

Sounds like they have a master plan to weaken other nations and become the dominant nation - these may be merely test runs.

I posted a while back, someone tried to poison our horses with antifreeze.

France allows more glycol in their sweetened wines than Canada does. I get a massive headache drinking any sweetened or fake flavoured wine. I'm pretty sure it's the glycol.

It's a scary thing that we can be poisoned so easily - you just never know - labels don't report when what's inside has been tampered with.

You should google Pan Pharmaceuticals in Australia. That was a major scandal regarding contaminated vitamins and other medicines.

Jeannie: Yes, I have been in the same line of thoughts. This is only a trial.
I remember I read that post about your horse.

Lexcen: It's scaring ... So scaring so it's difficult to comprehend it.

The sad thing is when you get older and find out medicine doesn't cure anything, it only makes the condition more bearable.

What is it with people who constantly go to other people's sites to make nasty comments.

It's almost as it they are living the role of a schoolyard bully that they could never physically express in their real life.

I hadn't heard this information about poisoning anywhere else and I thank you for sharing it.

Why does winai always have something negative to say?

He claims to be so spiritually enlightened, but he acts like a young adolescent. Perhaps he really is?

I believe one person referred to him as always sucking on a lemon. Everything that comes from him is seeming to be sour.

I am anonymous because I do not want him over at my blog.
But I just feel like sticking up for you, because he clearly wants to be friends, he just seeks the negative attention instead of the positive.

Lay your ego down winai, it is much more attractive if you are just as your true self.

Kirstin, I hope that you post this. He is always ripping on other people, but he does not get ripped on by this community. Why? It's called being POLITE It is called: doing to other people as you would have them do to you, it is called: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

winai
I know you think you are the walking Prince of Spirituality, but in all honesty, you are the youngest one in this crowd, you have MUCH to learn about the true nature of life...and according to your own traditions, you should be respecting your elders... even elders that are not of your same race (because I know you bear grudge to white women in particular as I have seen your comments elsewhere)

Try some sugar next time
for as the saying goes:

When life hands you lemons, make lemonaide.

phos: you are sooo right.

Hammer & Anonymus: Thanks for your support concerning Winai. Insultings and constant negative response has a kind of negative effect on ones psyke.
If he had given a negative opinion about the case in the post, it's another thing, but he makes it personal.

Winai: You don't have any opinion about the post itself then?
Is it Okay with you that people get mass-poisoned, that children dies in the hand of their own parent, just because they trusted the authorities who has the obligation to ensure that what is on the marked is not to any harm. Have the authority done their part of the job, you think?
